The Passion Project

Designed with a focus on Indigenous plant species and ecological function, this project replaced traditional lawn with a thoughtfully curated landscape. Permaloc aluminum edging creates clean definition throughout, while natural flagstone pathways and river rock drainage features add both beauty and performance. The planting palette highlighted resilient native species such as Blue Flag Iris, Coreopsis and Prairie Smoke.

Garden Design, Landscaping, Local Business, Small Business, Cobourg, — A garden design was created the front and back yard. The design process includes identifying client priorities, considering various vocal points and garden features. It also allows the client to revise and tweak their layout well before installation begins.

During the layout phase we lay ropes to represent design lines lines giving the client an opportunity to adjust before we spray our lines.

We upgraded drainage outlets for the homes eave’s and incorporated the stonework into the garden. These features will temporarily hold some water but absorbs in a short time.

The front yard had all sod removed, then was mulched and planted.

This client’s property abuts the protected ecosystem around Lake Scugog – this garden is to act as a refuge to the numerous species within that ecosystem.

This rear garden incorporated the clients existing tree’s, rain water outlets and a large planter.

Pathways help give direction and purpose to a space. These flagstone steppers help us accomplish that.

This showcases one of the drainage features incorporated to this garden. The river stone helps provide permeability and prevent future clogs that may be typical when surrounded by sod.

This is the driveway garden and is apx. 3′ wide featuring boulder accents and thoughtful plantings.

Some river stone and boulder accents were used in the front garden to act as features and hiding spots for wildlife. Once plantings establish and fill the garden space, these stone features will provide interest and texture.

Edging can be very important when thinking in terms of maintenance. The sturdy clean edge not only looks appealing, but prevents sod from creeping into the beds.

Upon designing a space, the clients intentions matter. For instance, this client was passionate about the ecosystem, but also about her neighbors. This bench rests at the end of a pathway connecting to the side walk. It is meant to say ‘come on in, sit and enjoy this space’.

The bench was created by a stone worker out of the GTA, and we think it made a beautiful addition to this garden.

Build it and they will come! Within only a few short weeks after installation – the client proudly showed us this crate placed over newly laid turtle eggs. We suppose the surrounding environment was pleased with the garden. Turtle approved!

As an entrepreneur herself, with a shared passion for environmental landscapes – lets just say we were two peas in a pod. She kindly agreed to pose for our website.
